FAQ
Welcome to our FAQ section! Here you'll find answers to commonly asked questions about play therapy and how it can benefit your child. Feel free to explore and learn more about the process and the positive impact it can have on your child's well-being.

-
What is play therapy?Play therapy is a form of counselling that uses play, the natural language of children, to help them express emotions, work through challenges, and develop healthy ways of coping. It’s particularly helpful for children who struggle to express themselves verbally.
-
Who is play therapy suitable for?Play therapy is suitable for children from around age 3 to 12 who may be experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, grief, behavioural difficulties, family changes (such as divorce or moving house), trauma, or difficulties at school or with friendships.
-
What happens in a play therapy session?Your child will have access to a wide range of creative and therapeutic resources such as art materials, sand trays, puppets, and small world toys. Sessions are child-led, meaning your child chooses how they want to play. As the therapist, I support and observe this process to help them make sense of their inner world.
-
How long is each session? Each 1:1 play therapy session lasts around 40–50 minutes depending on age and need during that session.
-
How many sessions will my child need?Every child is different. Some may benefit from short-term support (12 sessions), while others may need longer-term therapy. Regular reviews will take place to ensure the therapy continues to meet your child’s needs.
-
Will I receive updates about my child’s progress?Yes. I hold regular review meetings with parents or caregivers (usually every 6–8 sessions) to discuss general themes and progress, while always maintaining your child’s confidentiality and emotional safety.
-
Is what my child says in sessions kept private?Yes. Sessions are confidential, which helps build trust between your child and the therapist. However, if there are any concerns around safety or wellbeing, I have a duty to share this with the appropriate people, including parents or safeguarding leads.
-
Do I need to stay during the session?Children attend sessions independent of parents, who usually drop off and collect their child at the agreed time. If your child is anxious, we can gently build up their confidence in the playroom and adjust the transition accordingly with your support.
-
How do I book a session? We first need to organise an initial meeting to learn more about each other and your child. Bookings can be made directly with me via creativeconnectionsplaytherapy@gmail.com or Whatsapp/Phone +66930265339. Initial meetings are chargeable.
