What is Play Therapy?
Play Therapy is a therapeutic approach that helps children express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences through play, something that comes naturally to them. Just as adults use words to talk through their problems, children use play to communicate. In a safe and supportive environment, Play Therapy can help children process difficult emotions, build self-confidence, improve relationships, and develop healthy coping skills. It is particularly helpful for children facing challenges such as anxiety, behavioural difficulties, grief, trauma, family separation, or low self-esteem.
Play Therapy offers adaptive support and is proven to be effective with children who are English as an additional language learners, neurotypical and neurodiverse. Children with Autism or ADHD who may find it challenging to communicate their feelings verbally are offered a way of communicating through toys, art, sand, and role play to give them alternative ways to express emotions, thoughts, and experiences.
